Inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1973 novel Crash, the bony labyrinth explores an ambiguous relationship between human and material bodies. Located in a public space, the performers model a large amount of clay, as well as more refined and mundane objects onto a car, which converts into an exhibition display. Framed by a film set, slowly a holistic sculpture grows, which tangles organic formations and contemporary elements. While the performers lecture academic/anatomic texts related to the collision between human and car bodies, the decelerated actions are framed and dramatized from the outside by theatrical effects such as wind, smoke and light. Sensitive microphones intensify sounds of the various materialities, which are processed live by sound-artist Iruuu? and create an amplified audio-haptic experience.
